What are good tankmates for Betta fish?

To keep your Betta happy, you’ll need to make sure there is enough space that they can call their territory. Betta Fish can have very different personalities, some are more aggressive than others and may tend to harass one another, and others may not. The Betta is a fish with lots of vibrant colors, so when selecting tank mates to keep bettas in a community, you’ll want to provide Fish that are not aggressive and don’t have any long fins or colors that may intimidate the males.

List of possible tankmates:

  • Snail Species: Nerite Snail, Clithon Snail, Assasin Snail
  • Shrimp Species: Amano Shrimp
  • Guppies: Guppies (Short-finned)
  • Livebearers: Endlers Livebearers (Short-finned), Platies (Short-finned)
  • Dither fish: Neon Tetra, Silver Tip Tetra, Glowlight Tetra, Ember Tetra, Red-eye Tetra, Penguin Tetra, Green Neon Tetras, Rummy Nose Tetra, Cardinal Tetra, Espei Rasbora, Harlequin Rasbora, White Cloud mountain Minnow and Celestial Pearl Danio (Disclaimer: choose only 1 type of dither fish per tank)
  • Cory Catfish: Pygmy Cory, Emerald Cory, Sterbai Cory, Panda Cory
  • Suckerfish: Bristlenose Pleco, Starlight Pleco, and Otocinclus Catfish
  • Loaches: Panda Loach, Kuhli Loach
